Carpentry Services on Long Island

Our carpentry work spans finish and repair: crown molding and trim installation, custom shelving and built-ins, stair and railing repairs, rot cut-out and replacement, and furniture assembly. It is the trade underneath most of what we do, and the reason our repairs hold.

Custom-built cedar bench by Blue Whale Handyman

Problems this solves

  • Rooms missing trim, or trim damaged by moves and pets
  • Wasted alcoves and walls that want shelving or built-ins
  • Loose stair treads, balusters, and handrails
  • Rotted exterior wood: sills, posts, fascia, shed doors
  • Flat-pack furniture and gym equipment still in boxes

What’s included

  • Crown molding, baseboard, casing, and wainscoting
  • Custom shelving, bookcases, and closet built-outs
  • Interior door hanging and hardware
  • Stair, railing, and baluster repair
  • Structural rot replacement on posts, sills, and trim
  • Furniture and equipment assembly

Signs you may need this

  • Gaps opening at miter joints and corners
  • A railing that moves when you lean on it
  • Soft wood you can dent with a fingernail
  • Paint failing repeatedly over the same trim (moisture in the wood)

How we approach the work

Paint-grade work is typically poplar or MDF with filled and caulked joints; stain-grade work gets matched species and scribed fits. On rot repairs we probe well past the soft area, because rot travels along the grain ahead of what you can see.

What affects scope and price

We do not publish flat prices because these factors genuinely change the work. The estimate itemizes them for your project.

  • Material grade: paint-grade poplar and MDF versus stain-grade hardwood
  • Built-in complexity and finish level
  • How far rot has traveled beyond what is visible
  • Matching existing profiles in older homes

What customers say

★★★★★
These guys were great. I had a list of items to be done around the house from various carpentry jobs to masonry to window washing. Everything was done well and the prices were very fair. Would definitely recommend.

Ivan and his team did an awesome job with replacing my shed doors and restoring my barbecue island to look brand new. He is so talented, a true professional and really reliable. I am so happy that I found him and feel confident to give his number to my friends and family. Thank you Ivan!!!

Carpentry questions

Can you match the existing molding in my older home?

Usually. Many pre-war profiles are still milled, and close matches can be built up from stock pieces. For rare profiles, a lumberyard can knife-grind a match, which we will price as an option.

Do you build custom furniture?

We build fitted pieces: shelving, benches, built-ins, window seats. Freestanding fine furniture is a different trade, and we will say so rather than deliver something below that standard.

Is a wobbly railing really urgent?

Yes. A railing takes full body weight exactly when someone is falling. It is usually a fast, inexpensive fix, and it is the first thing we tighten on any multi-task visit.
