Serving Nassau & Suffolk County from Huntington
Trim, Molding & Baseboard Services on Long Island
Blue Whale Handyman installs and repairs interior trim, including baseboards, door and window casing, crown molding and wainscoting. We help Long Island homeowners define sensible repair boundaries, compare available profiles and coordinate the finish. Based in Huntington, we serve Nassau and Suffolk County with free estimates for individual openings, rooms and grouped repair lists.

Problems this solves
- Damaged or missing baseboard sections
- Door or window casing that needs repair or replacement
- Trim gaps or mismatched profiles left by earlier work
- New flooring, doors or wall repairs that need finish carpentry
- A room update that includes new crown molding or decorative trim
Whatβs included
- Assessment of the affected trim, surrounding surfaces and cause of damage
- Agreed baseboard, casing, crown molding or wainscoting installation
- Selective replacement where a suitable profile and joining points are available
- Fitting at corners, openings and retained trim
- Agreed joint treatment, filling and preparation for the selected finish
- Clear identification of painting and adjacent wall repairs in the scope
Signs you may need this
- A short damaged section interrupts an otherwise finished room
- New floors leave an unfinished edge at the wall
- Old and new casing no longer meet cleanly
- Repeated filler or paint has not resolved a loose or deteriorated piece
How we approach the work
We look at the whole visible run, not only the damaged spot. The quote identifies the profile, material, repair boundaries and intended finish, including whether a close match is achievable. We discuss wall preparation, old coatings and any moisture concern before removal or finishing so those items are included in the right order.
Match the profile and define the repair boundary
A short section can be a useful repair when a suitable material match and joining points are available. If the profile cannot be matched acceptably, compare replacing a complete run, opening or room with joining different profiles in a prominent position.
Send an overall view and close-up photos rather than removing a painted piece to obtain a sample. Height, projection, shape and finish all affect how the new trim meets what remains.
| Task | What the scope should identify |
|---|---|
| Baseboard repair | Profile, damaged length, joints and finish boundary |
| Door or window casing | Opening, retained jamb, corners and adjoining paint |
| Crown molding | Room runs, corners, profile and ceiling/wall condition |
| Wainscoting or decorative trim | Layout, material, junctions and complete finish scope |
Plan adjoining repairs and painting together
New casing does not correct a door that sticks or a damaged jamb by itself. Likewise, replacing a swollen piece does not resolve continuing moisture. Describe operational symptoms or recurring damage separately so the assessment covers their cause.
For a door that needs adjustment as well as new casing, see our door repair and replacement service.
For finish coats and room-wide blending, see interior painting.
Tell us the age of the home and any known coating history before work that disturbs painted trim. Preparation for an older surface needs to be planned before sanding or removal.

What affects scope and price
We do not publish flat prices because these factors genuinely change the work. The estimate itemizes them for your project.
- Length of the runs and number of doors, windows and corners
- Profile availability and the match expected to retained trim
- Paint-grade versus visible-wood material and finish
- Condition of walls, floors and existing fixing surfaces
- Removal, preparation, painting and cleanup responsibilities

Can you replace only one damaged section of baseboard?
Often, if the cause is resolved and a suitable profile and joining point are available. We compare a section repair with replacing a complete visible run so you can choose an acceptable result.
Can you match trim in an older Long Island home?
We assess the profile, material and available replacements. An exact match is not guaranteed, especially for discontinued or custom profiles. Photos and an assessment help define the options before materials are ordered.
Does trim installation include painting?
It depends on the agreed scope. The proposal should identify filling, joint treatment, sanding or other preparation, primer and finish coats, including whether adjacent surfaces are included.
Can new baseboards be installed after flooring work?
Yes. Include the finished floor level, transitions, doors and existing trim in the assessment. Agree the fitting and finishing sequence with any other work happening in the room.
Can you combine trim work with shelving or door repairs?
Yes. List each task and send photos so materials, access and the sequence can be planned for one defined visit or project.
