Doors questions
Why does my door only stick in summer?
Wood doors absorb humidity and swell. Long Island summers are humid enough that a door fitted tight in January binds by July. The fix is planing the binding edge and sealing the raw wood so it stops breathing.
Repair or replace a drafty front door?
If the slab is sound, new weatherstripping, a sweep, and threshold adjustment fix most drafts for far less than replacement. Replace when the slab is warped, rotted, or a poor-fitting builder-grade unit.
Can you fix a sliding glass door without replacing it?
Usually yes. Worn rollers and dirty or dented tracks cause most slider problems, and both are serviceable. Fogged glass means a failed seal, which needs a glass unit swap rather than a whole new door.
