FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how we work. Service-specific questions live on each service page; these are the ones everyone asks.

What areas does Blue Whale Handyman serve?

We are based in Huntington, NY and serve homes within roughly 50 driving miles: most of Nassau County and western and central Suffolk County, including the North Shore from Port Washington to Port Jefferson. If you are unsure whether we cover your town, call 631-455-7879 and we will tell you straight.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Blue Whale Handyman is licensed and insured.

How do estimates work?

Estimates are free. Send your list through the estimate form or call, and for most projects we visit, walk the work with you, and follow up with a written scope. Small, well-described jobs can sometimes be quoted from photos.

What does a handyman do versus a contractor?

A handyman handles repairs and small-to-mid projects across many trades: drywall, doors, carpentry, painting, tile, fixtures. A general contractor manages large builds involving permits, structural changes, and multiple subcontractors. Most home to-do lists are handyman work; we tell you when a project genuinely needs a GC or a licensed trade.

Do you handle plumbing and electrical work?

Minor repairs only: a leaky faucet, a running toilet, a switch, outlet, or like-for-like fixture swap. New circuits, gas work, supply-line changes, and panel work require licensed trade professionals in New York. We identify that line clearly in every estimate and can coordinate licensed pros when a project crosses it.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards, debit, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and crypto.

What are your hours?

Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We are closed Sunday.

Is there a job too small?

No, though grouping tasks is the best value. Most customers keep a running list and book when it reaches four or five items; a single small job near Huntington is easy to slot in, while a single small job at the edge of our radius may wait for a day we are already nearby.

Who will actually show up?

Ivan, the owner, and his crew. Customers mention the same things in reviews: they show up when they say they will, keep the work area clean, and check the work with you before calling it done.

Do you offer emergency service?

We are not a 24/7 emergency service. Within business hours we do our best to fit urgent problems in quickly, especially anything letting water into the house. Call rather than email for anything time-sensitive.
